Recently, Disney has given guests the ability to consolidate many smaller-denomination gift cards into fewer, larger-denomination ones. This is a great idea for many reasons:
This all sounds great! But, how does it work? Great question! I just tested this process out myself so I could give you a simple tutorial here. If you are interested in consolidating gift cards (or storing this nugget of information away so that you can use it later for your own trip), follow the directions below.
*** Please note--you must transfer the entire gift card balance from every card on to your "consolidation" card. For example, if your default, consolidation card has a balance of $980 on it after you've added funds, and you only have $25 gift cards left, you may not transfer $20 from a $25 card and leave $5 on it.
Here is a picture of what the account will show you after you've added your first default card when you choose to transfer funds from other cards:
- If you are receiving gift cards for yourself or your kids to use on your Disney vacation, you can now consolidate all of those gift cards into one, easier-to-keep-track-of gift card with the total amount on it, rather than carrying around several and trying to remember what the balance is on each one (and possibly losing them!).
- If you are registering for Disney gift cards for your honeymoon, again, this is a great way to consolidate all of those funds into one or a few cards rather than the several you are likely to receive.
- And, perhaps the best reason yet... if you are a Target Red Card holder or a Sam's or Costco member, and you are buying gift cards in bulk with an approximate 5% savings to use to pay off your vacation, you can now consolidate all of those cards into just a few worth up to $1,000 to use to pay off your trip.

- Go to http://www.disneygiftcards.com and create an account.
- Begin by adding a "default" card to the account. If all of your gift cards look the same, I recommend numbering the gift cards on the cards themselves and using that same number as you enter them into your account that you plan to use as the cards you are consolidating. If they have all different designs (for example, I had a honeymoon card and a classic Mickey gift card here at home), then use different designs and name them accordingly on your account.
- Once you have one card in your system, you can then add the funds from as many cards as necessary to reach the maximum amount of $1,000.

I personally recommend just officially adding one default card at a time and then adding the account number and security code of the additional cards at the bottom left of the above image, rather than adding each individual card to the account and then transferring the balances. To me, that would be a headache to see all of the individual cards listed.
