Everyone knows that Walt Disney World is the Happiest Place on Earth. However, wouldn't it be just a little happier if there weren't quite so many people sharing in that happiness at the same time you are? If you ask me, any time is the best time to go to Disney. However, for some families, especially those with older children or no children, working around school schedules isn't as big of a problem as for others. Fall is one of the absolute best times to visit Walt Disney World for many reasons, and those reasons might just give you cause to change those travel plans.
Reason #1: Free Dining
While I can't guarantee that Disney will always give away free dining in the fall, it has been a fairly standard promotion they have released in the fall for the past couple of years. And, if you're like my family, you've already started dieting to lose the weight you intend to gain while you "eat yourself Goofy around the world." Dining can be expensive, especially if you are staying for a lengthier visit, when you have to eat out every meal of the day. If you are camping or you have suite accommodations that give you a kitchenette, you might not take advantage of free dining often. But, for those who stay in the resorts without kitchen access, a dining plan can help reduce the stress of budgeting while on vacation. When it's offered for free, that means you have more money for keepsakes while at the parks!
Reason #2: Value Season Rates
Of course Disney caters to kids, and that means that many of the families who travel to Disney destinations are bound by a school year schedule, so they will head to the parks when kids are out of school for longer periods of time. September, because most kids have either just started school or haven't been in school for long, is a great time to get away to Disney because they offer some of the lowest hotel rates of the year to entice you to "forget about your worries and your strife."
Reason #3: Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party and Holiday Décor
September is when Disney starts gearing up for the fall season and decorating for Halloween. This means there are exciting new parades, character experiences, and extra magic hours at the parks for those who purchase tickets to this special event. Main Street U.S.A. in the Magic Kingdom is all dressed up in fall swag with pumpkins and autumn foliage around the park.
Reason #4: More Reliable Weather Conditions
Just like in the midwest, Florida has a tendency to have very hot, humid, and unpredictable weather throughout the summer. While Florida's hurricane season officially runs from June through November, September usually brings milder weather. So, you can still float on the lazy river or body surf some typhoon size waves, but you won't need to worry as much about heat stroke in September.
Reason #5: Low Crowds
And, of course, with all that being said, there will be less crowds (read: shorter wait times) enjoying the parks on the same days you and your family are. This means you can see more of the parks quicker and enjoy more down time to eat at your favorite table service dining location, try out Fantasia Gardens or Winter Summerland mini golf, or just enjoy a tropical spirit at your resort's pool bar (where applicable).
