Are you tired of always having to have someone out of family photos because he or she has to TAKE the photo? Are you skeptical of just handing over your camera or phone to a stranger so everyone can be IN the photo? I don't blame you. The good news is: there's a solution! That solution is called Memory Maker, which was formerly known as PhotoPass+. In the post that follows, I will recap some of the important aspects of and things to remember about the Memory Maker service.
1. What is it?
Memory Maker is a service that links all of your Disney photos, including photos from select rides and attractions, to your My Disney Experience account. You then have a period of 45 days after the date each photo was taken to download them as many times as you want.
2. How does it work?
You have an opportunity to purchase Memory Maker in advance for the current price of $149 if purchased at least 3 days in advance of its first use (typically, your arrival date). If you forgot to add it in advance, you can add it when you arrive for a purchase price of $199. You then go about your day making sure to ask PhotoPass photographers to scan any magic band associated with the My Disney Experience account that the Memory Maker package has been linked to prior to taking your photo. Sign in to My Disney Experience a couple hours later and voila! There are your photos. Want ride photos? Make sure to visit the kiosk where you would purchase the photos to add your photos to your account the same way you would to add a regular photo.
Important things to remember
1. Every person in your party's magic band and/or park ticket needs to be linked to the My Disney Experience account that the Memory Maker package has been assigned to. For instance, if John Smith's name is the lead guest's name on the WDW package reservation that includes Memory Maker, John Smith's My Disney Experience account will automatically be the account that is fully linked with the Memory Maker photos. While friends and family associated with the reservation may be able to access some of the photos, ride and attraction photos are often only associated with the original My Disney Experience account.
2. Make sure that you always have someone in your party provide their Magic Band to get scanned by the PhotoPass photographer or the attraction photo attendant, or the photos will not be linked to your account.
3. Need to reassign download capabilities to a "Friend and Family", someone other than the lead guest on the reservation? No problem. Sign in to your My Disney Experience account and click on "Reservations and Tickets." Toward the bottom of the screen you will see a link that says "Reassign Download Privileges." This can be done up until Memory Maker's first use.
4. See a PhotoPass photographer or call your travel agent if there are photos missing from your account or someone else's photos in your account. Under many circumstances, your missing photos can be recovered and linked to your account. However, your photos do expire 45 days after they are taken, so don't delay!
5. Make sure to visit PhotoPass photographers who do not take photos with a tripod. These are the only PhotoPass photographers around the World (meaning Disney World) who can add a little extra "magic" to your photos. Curious what I mean? Look at the photo below for just one example of this extra magic.
6. Relax and leave your camera at home :) All of your photography needs will be taken care of.
